Lighting for Boulevard of Arts 2020, Ukraine, Dnipro

Pedestrian Boulevard on Korolenko Street in Dnipro

The boulevard is being built downtown, closely to theaters and art sites, and is set to become a new creative cluster. The task was to maximize the creativity of the space employing light techniques. In this concept, we combined caustic waves filling the entire boulevard, themed projections, craft lamps, an interactive media screen, and much more.

With light, we form a space for creative people to create. We provide the boulevard with non-intensive "art" light, courteous, and non-flooding. As if in the performance hall, the general lighting is unsaturated and able to change the intensity and shades of light according to different events on this "stage." At the same time, the individual elements and zones are accent and attention-grabbing. The dominant supports made of corten steel give the "scenic" narrow-beam light, creating spots that seem to penetrate the trees. Crafted perforated lamps spread over the entire boulevard on carrier cables. For them, we are creating special lenses that give good caustic waves to the pedestrian plane. Also, with the help of gobo projectors, we complement the atmosphere with light projections reflecting the creative professions. Its main attraction is an interactive screen. The idea came out of a desire to bring city residents and guests closer to creativity and immerse them in the process of interacting with the creative space as much as possible. Interactive installations present a modern art form. Any person can come into contact with an art object, and even more, become a part of it. Can you imagine yourself as an artist? And the conductor? What about a sculptor? We can be whoever we want, and a media screen is a great way to try the chosen role for at least a few minutes. The interactive sensors detect human movement and transform it into a projection. So, the artists “paint” with digital paint. The sculptors use their movements to create a sculpture from digital material. And all that is going on in real-time mode. Together with caustic waves and creative projections, the screen becomes a dynamic element of the boulevard and a new unique photo zone. That is another step to the transformation of a city image from industrial to modern and creative. And every passer-by will be literally able to feel himself or herself a creator thanks to our interactive media screen. With the help of projection technologies, anyone will get a chance to create paintings or sculptures on a large surface, or to be an orchestra conductor.
