The Eye of Mexico 2022, Mexico, Mexico City

A Portal Towards the Future in Mexico City

The first AI public art piece in Latin America is the heart of a mixed-use development in Mexico City.

Owned by Ivanhoé Cambridge and developed by MIRA, Neuchâtel Cuadrante Polanco is Nuevo Polanco’s premier mixed-use development specifically designed to foster healthier and more satisfying urban lifestyles for its tenants, residents and customers. To make this a reality, they called upon MASSIVart‘s expertise in public art and placemaking master planning. The heart of Neuchâtel Cuadrante Polanco is a public art installation, titled “The Eye of Mexico”, the first piece of public art driven by artificial intelligence (AI) in Latin America, reflecting the energy of Mexico. It is located in the complex’s central square, designed by HOK, making it a benchmark for innovation, mobility and urban planning at a national and international level while boosting energy and movement to the neighbourhood. To bring this project to life, MASSIVart worked with Mexico’s most innovative real estate company: MIRA. Following an art consulting mandate, we developed and coordinated a global call for artists to curate a sculpture that would become an unquestionable icon, the landmark of Neuchâtel. A development capable of transforming the urban square into an inspirational destination for locals and tourists alike. Through the international call for artists, we received 350 applications from around the world. In the end, MASSIVart and MIRA commissioned the acclaimed visual artist and Creative Director of the award-winning Ouchhh art studio, Ferdi Alici, to create this piece. “The Eye of Mexico” contains demographic, urban and mobility data for Mexico, thus showcasing the neighbourhood’s dynamism and acting as a kind of portal towards the future of cities and of Mexico City itself. It is a dynamic work that transports us to the future of mobility in Mexico. It also highlights the importance of Neuchâtel Cuadrante Polanco’s real estate development project as a turning point in the urban evolution of the Nuevo Polanco area, as well as a statement of art and technology, both for residents and visitors. The art piece will surely become a sought-after community destination with a sound show that will be displayed regularly to create a meeting point and enhance the allure of the plaza. This artistic project became a massive marketing opportunity for MIRA. MASSIVart also helped make the most out of this investment by coordinating an international PR and marketing campaign to promote “The Eye of Mexico”. Our team is extremely proud to be at the forefront of this landmark project for the art world in Latin America, contributing to make Neuchâtel Cuadrante Polanco a unique destination while enhancing the quality of people’s lives.
